The starting point of Li Jiang River is Cat Mountain (Mao’er Mountain) in Xing’an. It ends at the Sanjiangkou in Pingle. The upper reaches is called Darong Jiang River and the lower reaches is named Gui Jiang River. The estuary of the Lingqu Canal is the dividing point of the Darong Jiang River and the Li Jiang River while the estury of the Lipu River and the Gongcheng River is the dividing point of the Gui Jiang River and the Li Jiang River. The total length of the Li Jiang River is 164 kilometers.

In Xing’an, the Li Jiang River connects with the old Lingqu Canal. In Lingchuan, the river flows for nearly 45 kilometers, passing by Xiabei, Yantou, Sanjie, Fuqiudu, Dutou, Shuangtan, Cuijia Village, Sanchawei, Xiaqin Village and Damian into the city of Guilin. This is the upper section of the river in Lingchuan. The lower section of the Li River in Lingchuan is around 11.5 kilometers long. It flows by Daxu Old Town southward to Yangshuo.
