The Li River Cruise in December is also available although the water level is very low. The water level in the river may be the lowest in December. At some points, passengers on the boat may be able to see the bottom of the river. The surface of the river is getting narrower and narrower. And some of the shoals in the river show their appearance to the tourists. Trees at the exposed shoals grow into one direction but not uprightly, which shows that the direction of growth is obviously affected by the constant winds around the year along the river.
At some places, you may see the local water buffaloes or cattle are feeding themselves on grass at the shoal. Along the section of the Li River between Yangdi and Xingping, you could see some private Li River motorized bamboo rafts stopping at the bank of the river to give way to the big cruise boats. If you are lucky enough, you may encounter the cormorants standing on the traditional bamboo raft.
As it is cold in December, some of the cruise boats may be not fully seated. Therefore, you may enjoy the karst landscape on a quieter boat in this month. You could take any one type of the Li River cruise boats to appreciate the views. The 3-star boat is the most cost-effective. The 4-star boat is a better option. And if you would like to sit in a large seat, you could take the luxury Li River boat.
The 3-star boat just offers a simple Chinese packaged lunch on the boat while the 4-star and the luxury boats offer the Chinese buffet lunch to enjoy. If you’d like to try other Chinese food not included in the lunch, you could pay it for an additional fee to the staff on the boat. They will cook it based on your preferences.
